Sarah Palin Fanatical?

Do you find this alarming? You should. Snap out of it if not. Sarah Palin sounds just like those fanatical jihadist we hear so much about these days. This Yahoo! news piece caught my attention just now:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

Are you seriously drawing a moral equivalence between a Jihadist and Sarah Palin? Jihadists believe in “convert or die”. They use women and children to blow up innocent people. They fly planes into buildings and kill thousands of innocent people. So for Sarah Palin to state that our mission to fight against tyranny and jihadism is a “task from God” does not seem at all inappropriate. You don’t think that God would want us to fight against a tyrannical leader that exterminated hundreds of thousands of his own people and a sect of a religion that believes that if you don’t convert you should die?

  • War and God linked together. What a novel concept. ;) But seriously, I don’t believe that using God or Jah (or who/whatever you happen to believe in) to justify war and killing is appropriate.

Right. I don’t think that someone saying “God said we should go to war” is appropriate either. But I don’t think that’s what she’s saying here. The arguments and justifications for war, whether you buy them or not, were made a long time ago. I think what Sarah is saying is related to the larger belief that what we are fighting against is evil and tyranny. Those that, if they had their way, would forcibly convert you and put your wife in a burka or cut your head off. Either way, I still don’t believe you can honestly think there is any comparison between Palin and a jihadist.

“War and God linked together. What a novel concept.”. Secular governments are much better right? As can be seen by Russia and China. ;)
